Malta Music Export (MME) was established at a get together in 2012 at the Step Down Bar in Depiro Street in Sliema, Malta and was the brainchild of veteran A&R man Richard Rogers, former Warner/Chappell Music UK Manager and BBC Radio A&R Consultant. Initially envisaged as a low key way of representing the interests of the local Maltese music industry the meeting saw people such as Elton Zarb, Annalisa Schembri, the late and wonderful Kathy Manuell, Cat Bartola, Maddy Dargue, Matt Secrett, Matthew Clarke and Richard Rogers among many others attend the first meeting to navigate Malta Music onto a far better path than was currently available. MME is now the main Maltese music industry body (in fact the only body) and operates in the areas of education, export and lobbying to develop artists, musicians and any music connected to Malta through information and advice resources.
We help our clients to establish connections and present their music. MME is the only voice representing Malta music at international showcases, fairs and exhibitions. These have included MIDEM in France, The Great Escape in the UK and the Reeperbahn Festival in Germany.
Our services also include consultation, networking and music industry courses as well as artist showcases abroad. From 2012 to 2021 MME were sponsored by only UK or German companies with ironically absolutely no funding from Malta. With this website we seek to promote Maltese music still further in 2023 as we seek partnerships with international music trade associations.
